Captured at sunrise on Iceland's iconic Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, this photograph is the result of an early start and the reward that comes with chasing first light. Travelling the Ring Road by campervan, we woke before 4 a.m., arriving as the landscape slowly emerged from darkness and the lagoon came alive in the quiet glow of dawn.

This image captures a glacial fragment during the final stage of its remarkable journey. After breaking away from Breiðamerkurjökull, the iceberg drifts slowly across Jökulsárlón before continuing through a narrow channel and out into the Atlantic Ocean. Many of these ancient pieces of ice are eventually carried ashore on the nearby black sands of Diamond Beach, where they catch the sunlight and sparkle like scattered diamonds.

Suspended in the dark, icy water, this solitary fragment reveals the extraordinary colours and textures hidden within centuries-old glacial ice. More than a photograph, it captures a fleeting moment in an ever-changing landscape—one shaped by time, movement, and nature's quiet power.
